Our green roots are showing
Green isnt a new color for Residence Inn by Marriott Capitol.
Weve been working on ways to minimize our environmental
impact since the hotel opened in 2005. Thats why were proud to
show our green roots.
Take a look at the initiatives we have already launched along with
others we hope to put in place soon. We invite your feedback,

In place
- We purchase 50% of our electricity from renewable energy sources!
- You can participate in our green your stay package:
Your contribution of $5 per night goes toward the purchase of
green tags, allowing the hotel to purchase more renewable energy,
neutralizing the carbon impact of your hotel stay. Contact the Front
Desk for more information.
- Bed linen changed twice weekly in stay-over rooms.
- Replacement of towels upon guest request.
- In-hotel recycling program for operations and guests:
We invite guests to separate bottles/cans/paper and bring to recycling
areas in the lobby and on the 2nd floor.
- 99% fluorescent lighting in the hotel.
- Fully automated HVAC temperature control for all public spaces.
- Digital motion-sensing HVAC systems in each guest suite:
HVAC units only work when the suite is occupied to further save on
energy costs.
- Water-saving shower heads, toilets, and sink aerators throughout the
hotel.
- Quadruple pane sound and energy efficient windows around three-
quarters of the building. The remaining windows and balconies are
double pane glass.
- Proximity to public transportation allowing guests to easily take the
Metro and avoid driving.
- A bike rack in the garage for guest and employee use.
- Battery and fluorescent light recycling.
- No styrofoam.

Environmental Benefits
We purchase 1,300,000 kWh in renewable energy credits (RECs) per year.
- This avoids 1,809,600 lbs of CO2 being produced by the hotel in a year
- This takes 178 cars off the road for a year
- This saves the annual electricity use of 105 households
- This stops 684 acres of pine & fir trees from storing carbon for a year
- This compares to 276 tons of waste recycled vs. landfilled in a year
